Standard Sessions

In this snippet, the student has a conversation with her coach in Beijing via Skype about shopping patterns in Beijing and Melbourne. By having a conversation and taking turns, the student gets to practice both her listening and speaking skills.

In this example, the student is already quite a fluent Mandarin speaker, but he wants to practice using accounting terms, as he is a Singaporean accountant, doing business with clients in China.

The coach introduces a word that the student is not so familiar with and helps her put it into context by talking about the topic. Listening to a native speak the language is a much better way to practise listening, as it reflects a real life conversation situation accurately.

Basic Language Option

In this sample, the student also practises reptition to develop their pronounciation and accent.

The coach has asked the student a question, and while the student answers, the coach interjects to help fix up some pronouncation but then allows the student to continue.

The student only has a basic level of Chinese, so the coach goes through basic phrases, having the student listen and then repeat. Repetition is an excellent way to develop both listening and conversational skills.
